NOTHING I THINK OR BELIEVE IS TRUE

The above photo of Ed Matsuishi’s 1967 911 S/R was taken this last weekend…before the crash. I do not know all the details but received a text from Cris Huergas, founding member of R Gruppe, stating that the car was “badly wrecked”. Then later in the evening, I received a voicemail from good friend Terry English with additional info after visiting Ed later that day. Ed is okay…let’s get that important detail out right-quick. He suffered a bruised leg from the roll-cage.

Terry further explained that the incident involved white ’67 911 with race number 901 as featured in my calendar for this month which ironically shows both cars. Ed went into Turn Five too hot and went off the track. He attempted to return but the off-road gravel caused him to lose traction and he was t-boned by the ’67 901. Both cars are “pretty smashed up” with panels being off by as much as three feet, torn off door and projected windshields.

I don’t have any further info on the driver and owner of the ’67 901 car but have to assume the safety equipment did its job. If you have any further details then please reply with comment.

I am a huge fan of Ed and his car. He is simply one of the nicest and most hospitable people you can encounter at the track.

So sorry to hear this, but glad Ed is OK.

That’s the second time this 1967 911 S/R has crashed at Laguna. The first was when Bruce O’Neil owned it in the ’70s.

  2. Bob Tilton says:

That is my understanding as well.
