MAYBE I RIDE MAYBE YOU WALK

A few weekends back, I had the pleasure of having coffee with Hen from the Napa region. He bought a ’68 rear view mirror from me for his ’68L soft window targa. Here he is driving away in his other car – a ’69T Sportomatic. We went for a quick spin around the block and it was the strangest thing to NOT watch someone engage the clutch. All of Hen’s cars are Sportomatics due to loosing his leg in Vietnam.

That’s the other thing. I rarely meet a fellow Vietnamese who owns an early Porsche. They’re an extremely elusive and rare breed. Elderly caucasians…a sea of pigment challenged gentleman with SPF 230 sunscreen…yeah all day long but a Vietnamese enthusiast…kind of like a chupacabre sighting.. Almost mythical.

I managed to snap off the iPhone shot of this rare sighting – note the license plate. Bond car.

  1. Paul Ciancimino says:

Guess none of us are touching the “elderly caucasian” comment.

  2. Quote of the year? I think so.
